CHANGE

This is probably the biggest word being used this week. In three days the big ‘CHANGE’ is supposed to happen – I guess. So many talk about it – their big ‘CHANGE’. I’m sure you’ve heard – I’m going to change careers, I’m going to change my friends, I’m going to change my hair color, I’m going to change my hair style, and the big one – I’m going to change my man (or exchange - LOL)… But the reality comes down to a ‘CHANGE’ we so often overlook and that is saying – I’m going to ‘CHANGE’ the way I think. Wow! How profound is that! Do you know that if you change the way you think your situation will change? Your life will change all because YOU have changed.  I know in three days many of us are saying we will ‘CHANGE’ the way we eat. Have that last drink on Saturday night, eat that last piece of bread, or taste that last piece of chocolate. But how long will that change last? So let’s re-evaluate the ‘CHANGE’ that’s about to take place. We all (I hope) are striving to make better eating habits, but as most of us know it takes 21 days (some say 18) to form any habit. Imagine that! So let’s start with our minds. As we vision our favorite ‘bad’ food staring at us, calling us, begging us to buy it we truly need to think about how it makes us feel after that minute of ‘good’ feeling has passed. The guilt :( The anguish :( The whys :(. Put your mindset there before you decide to indulge.  Ask yourself – is it really worth it? Is this adding to my life or taking away from it? And as you do this with the food you eat – you can also incorporate it in the challenges life handles you. Before you know it – you will be ‘CHANGED’ and your situations will change and CHANGE WILL ACTUALLY BE GOOD.

Lord God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

You Gotta Start Somewhere

As the new year approaches - so many have made a decision to finally lose that weight and put down that last piece of cheesecake forever. Or maybe it's to give up alcohol, eat out less, or exercise more. January 1st - seems to be where most people start. Getting that last drink in and putting that last glass down. The gym is overcrowded at least for the first three weeks (if that). Personal trainers are making a killing. But then here comes and there goes February, March, and April. Money has been wasted on gyms and that treadmill has turned into a clothing rack. What happened? Let me tell you what happened. Doing too much at once. That's like saying you gonna save $500.00 a month but you can't even commit to saving $10.00 a week. Really, are you really serious. Did you really think a light was gonna come on and say - ok I'm ready! Baby Steps. Yeah, it may seem like it's not worth it and results are too slow but you gotta start somewhere. If you're hungry and have to stop somewhere to eat, skip McDonald's and try Subways (but skip the mayo). If you're chilling on the couch watching a Lifetime movie and you have a treadmill or eliptical in your home - jump on it for at least 20 minutes. And if you don't - march in place, burn some calories. What harm can it do. But remember YOU GOTTA START SOMEWHERE.
